The body is usually compressed laterally, and the anterior pairs or legs are directed downward and forward, but the posterior legs are usually turned upward and backward. - Marram - n. - A coarse grass found on sandy beaches (Ammophila arundinacea). See Beach grass, under Beach.
- Sea clam - - Any one of the large bivalve mollusks found on the open seacoast, especially those of the family Mactridae, as the common American species. (Mactra, / Spisula, solidissima); -- called also beach clam, and surf clam.
